Blackhawks Weekly Roundup: Levshunov debuts, Bedard racks up PIMs, and coaching worries
Your partially weekly dose of Blackhawks news, updates, and more.
This season isn’t going to end on a high note… is it?
Let’s start with the best news since we last did this thing, and that’s Artyom Levshunov making his debut. He looks great. Sure, there are some mistakes that he’s made, but at 19 years old, a defenseman, and the limited experience he’s had at the pro level, he’s been excellent.
The other stuff hasn’t been so fun. Connor Bedard got two 10-minute misconducts on back-to-back nights. Both were very soft for different reasons.
But that isn’t what is making me uneasy about this team. It’s Anders Sorensen, the interim head coach. Here’s a quote from Scott Powers of The Athletic, “But this March surge — while working with fewer veterans and more young players — surely is turning heads in the front office.” One, that “surge” is over. But that last part about turning heads has me worried because for as tied in to the front office that Powers is, it leads me to think that might hint at where the organization is heading.
I’m not worried. Yet. This summer will dictate a lot of how I feel about this team. Free agency will be pretty big, but the most important part of the next step is going to be the coaching hire. The Chicago Bears nailed theirs. Kyle Davidson has to follow suit.
