Hawk Thoughts: Murmurs in the Dark
The Blackhawks are on a three game point streak as trade deadline rumors start circulating.
I’ve gotten soft. It’s in the 40s and I’m complaining about it. Shivering in my car getting ready for my commute, I remember when it was worse. I used to scrap ice off of my windshield before driving my salt-encrusted Mazda to work. So, I check my phone to see how all of you are doing in Chicago. Below zero, huh? Yeah, I’ll stick to whining about it being chilly in the desert.
With most of my writing being dedicated to On Tap Sports, these weekly newsletters might be a little shorter... which I can hear the sigh of relief from where I sit. I’ll add in any player breakdowns/writings that don’t make the cut over there. I’ll do my best to keep the game day threads going too.
Let’s get into it.
Game Recaps
The Hawks have one win in their last four games but they’re on a three-game point streak. Do those points matter? No, but goaltending has been pretty solid. During that four-game stretch, the Hawks have a .923 SV% at 5v5. The other thing that’s been nice is watching Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar work their chemistry together. With Nazar on Bedard’s wing, it’s opened up a lot of scoring chances despite limited OZ time. The Blackhawks have 23 scoring chances with both on the ice in that four-game stretch.
Blackhawks On Tap
As far as Rockford updates, I’m putting those over in my weekly news round up at On Tap Sports. Look, it’ll be super redundant to keep typing the same things over and over. Last week’s pig updates can be found here.
There’s also a flurry of Blackhawks news as I’m typing. Ethan Del Mastro has been recalled from Rockford (Hawks now have 8 active D on the roster), AJ Spellacy just signed his ELC with the Hawks, and Kyle Davidson has been seen at a couple of Avalanche games. Jones trade to Colorado incoming?
Perfect segway for my upcoming trade deadline piece which can be found at On Tap Sports once that’s published. There’s been some rumblings about teams interested in Seth Jones. The media has been speculating that Taylor Hall, Ryan Donato, and Jason Dickinson could be good pieces for Davidson to move at the deadline.
Week Ahead
A little late so we only have one game left in the week. The Hawks somehow survived that onslaught put on by the Hurricanes and face another strong team in the Lightning. I’ll have a game preview out on On Tap Sports sometime tomorrow.
