Hawks Weekly Update 5/13
Hawks land the 2nd OVA Draft Pick, World Championship features Hawks' players contributing to wins.

Don’t really have much to say in terms of housekeeping, so I guess we can kind of get right into things.
The playoffs have been entertaining, so that’s cool I guess. If you want to get caught up, click the link for Hockey Psychology’s amazing channel. The IIHF World Championship has been going on and we have some Hawks in there. The aurora borealis has been everywhere… I guess you guys over in Chicago had some cloud coverage… (is this dude seriously talking about weather)
Since there’s not a whole lot going on in Hawks-land, this week has just two sections: Weekly Updates and the Mens World Championships.
Enjoy.
Album of the Week: Naked Raygun, Jettison
You ever find a band that you never knew about and it turned out they were super influential? Naked Raygun is that band. They are one of, if not the most influential bands for Chicago punk. I have been devouring Naked Raygun’s discography non-stop this week. Expect more Chicago punk to make their way here.
Weekly Update
Hawks landed the 2 overall draft pick in the lottery. Which is huge. The Hawks, and every other team, landed exactly where they fell in the standings. Sharks got the grand prize in NHL-ready Macklin Celebrini. For the Hawks, there are a lot more options as there isn’t a clear consensus no. 2. But we know where we stand. So who should the Hawks pick? While it’s not a deep draft like last year, that doesn’t discredit the talent that’s available to Kyle Davidson. Whoever we get, you can rest assured that it’ll be the most talented player available.
Part 1 of my draft preview dropped earlier this week. I focus on the Hawks’ current needs and where they are in the rebuild. Part 2 drops sometime this week and focuses on the prospects themselves.
Lukas Reichel signed a contract extension of 2 years for $1.2mil. This is as fair as it gets. Reichel needs to prove himself. There’s no room for having games with “nice flashes.” Reichel must produce and if he doesn’t, there is no place for him at the end of the contract.
Reichel also joined the World Championship, he’ll be on Team Germany. He didn’t play in Friday’s game but he did debut in Saturday’s. I go more into the World Championship below.
Men’s World Championship
Speaking of the World Championship, things have been going pretty well for our Hawks players partaking. Alex Vlasic had an assist in Friday’s loss to Team Sweden. Seth Jones also logged an assist, both defensemen contributed to the 2 USA goals (Sweden had 6). On Saturday’s 6-1 win over Germany, Jones got 2 assists.
Connor Bedard played very well in Saturday’s game. He scored 2 goals alongside former Hawk Bradon Hagel in a 4-2 win over Great Britain. Then he did it again on Sunday in Canada’s 5-1 win over Denmark. That’s 4 goals and an assist so far for Bedard.

Philipp Kurashev got an assist in Switzerland’s 5-2 win over Norway and an assist in their 6-5 win over Austria.
Petr Mrazek didn’t play in Czechia’s 1-0 loss to Finland on Friday. He did play in Czechia’s 6-3 win over Norway, which I was able to catch the last period of.
The tournament runs until May 26. You can get more information from the IIHF website, right here.
Alright, I guess that’s it for now. Draft Preview Part 2 is coming out this week.
