Here Is No Why
Two recaps for the weekend's Blackhawks games against the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jackets.
Happy Monday faithful readers.
Starting things off with an apology, my bad for not opening up the Game Day Thread for the Maple Leafs game. I was busy with chores and stuff. Usually, I try to announce on Substack when I’m not able to do that.
Either way, you didn’t miss much. The Hawks had a bad weekend with back-to-back games. A 5-1 loss in Columbus and a 5-2 loss against the Maple Leafs here in Chicago.
I’ll link my game recaps at the bottom. I suggest starting with the Toronto recap as that’s the most recent game, and is related to my next talking point.
I really hope Anders Sorensen doesn’t get hired as the next head coach.
In last night’s game against Toronto, Lukas Reichel was benched halfway through the second period and didn’t step on the ice again. Anders’ reasoning was that he “didn’t like his game.” Ok… but why do certain veterans consistently make mistakes and don’t get punished for it? What message are we sending to the young players?
Additionally, Sorensen hasn’t been taking advantage of getting the last line change on the face-off dot at home. He let Connor Bedard take d-zone face-off draws against Auston Matthews, only to get absolutely swamped.
There’s more to dig into Sorensen’s decision-making, and while I don’t think Kyle Davidson will hire him, I’m worried that he might.

Welcome back to Chicago Blackhawks hockey. On Saturday night, the Hawks lost 5-1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets in both team's first game back from their 4 Nations Face-Off break.
I have thoughts, and you have time, so let's see what went wrong…
Blackhawks Drop Third Straight in 5-2 Loss Against Maple Leafs
The Chicago Blackhawks hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday night. The Hawks donned their Winter Classic uniforms and Frank Pellico was on the organ for his last game before retiring after 33 years. I suggest you take a moment to listen to his last anthem performance…
