Game Day: Kings at Blackhawks, March 20, 7:30 pm CT

The Hawks host the Kings and face official playoff elimination.

You guys are getting a special treat today. Extra words and thoughts from me.

It’s a Blackhawks game day and man, it’s getting tougher to sit through these games. So, I figured I’d just share my unfiltered thoughts. I need a shoulder to lean on.

If you’ve been a reader of this newsletter since the beginning, first, I’m sorry. Second, you know that I’ve been on board with Kyle Davidson’s plan and sharing warranted criticism. I try to remain fair and see how this thing is going to pan out.

This summer is going to impact a lot of that.

I’m not too worried about the free agent thing. Whoever wants to come here will, and I won’t hold it against Kyle unless he signs another veteran who doesn’t add value to the team. Most of his signings have been pretty bad. Tuevo Teravainen gets a pass. Jason Dickinson and Ilya Mikheyev are alright returns in their trades. But everything else leads me to worry about the pro scouting department (is there one?).

The big factor that will influence my opinion of Kyle Davidson will be the next coaching hire. Anders Sorensen isn’t it. But like everything else, and I hate to say it, you just have to wait and see.

Even if Sorensen is hired, and I’ll be upset about it, you can’t just completely write it off, right? And believe me, I’m very much ok with being wrong about Sorensen. If he gets hired, and big if, I hope he’s successful.
